Why is it so suprising to hear that the “honorable” reverand Jesse Jackson used the “N” word? Why is there is commentary about how damaging this was? How and who is it damaging to? Most of the African American population doesn’t look at Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton or any of these other so called spokesmen as our leaders. These people were annointed by mainstream white media as the “voice” of black America, when it reality they’re consistently out of touch with the needs, wants, hopes, and dreams of the people they supposedly represent. I know there is going to be some white columnist or journalist that is going to say how hyprocritical Jesse Jackson is for spouting the word after he and Al Sharpton called for it’s ban, and I know that some will say how could they come down of Mr. Richards for saying that “same” word, but you and I know that, that is bullsh*t. Every culture has words that they use within the context of their culture that are subversive and taboo outside of thier culture, and just becasue Jesse Jackson got caught being “uncivilized” does not mean that it is ok for “white folks” to say the word. What this little controversy should do is make people realize that these ancient “leaders” who were elected by mainstream media have had thier run. As a 25 year old college educated product of the innercity I have never felt like these “so called leaders” represent me, or anything I go through. The symbolic burial of the world “nigg(a,er) didn’t really bury the word or get rid of the context or subcontext that exists. There is a white artist named UNCLE Cracker, now of course it would be a problem if I went around publicly calling white people cracker, but within the context of his cultural frame of reference it is accepted, the same goes for Jeff Foxworthy and his “you might be a redneck jokes”. The point is that what is accepted within one persons culture by people with that culture does not make it acceptable for everyone else. In terms of Jesse Jackson, if anything he shouldn’t of got caught on Fox “News”. But as far Jesse Jacksons apology goes…N*gga Please!!
