Mixtape Chronicles Pt 1: Hitman Beatz

TN: Introduce yourself to the people.
Hitman:My real name is Matthew Lee, but I’m best known as Hitman Beatz. I was born in Hawaii, but I’ve been in Vegas my whole life really.

TN: Tell me about what you do. What’s your role in this game?

Hitman: Well, I am a real producer. People get it messed up and don’t really know what a producer is. It’s not just making beats. A producer doesn’t even have to make the beat. A producer makes the hit, he or she makes the artists or his or her idea come together. That’s what I do!

TN: You’re known for making hot tracks. I’ve heard some of your work. You’re fire! How do you do it, what the process?

Hitman: When I make a beat, I think of the concept first. I then pitch it to whoever is getting the track and come together and share our ideas about how it should go. Then we get to work.
TN: How did you get into this game?

Hitman:I’ve been doing music forever, I’ve been drumming since I was 3! I started a band at West Middle School in Las Vegas in the 6th grade. I was with them all the way until my senior year. So I’ve been destined from the start.
TN: When did you start producing?

Hitman: I started making beats in the 10th grade so, I’d say 3 years really.

TN: So you’re a vet and a rookie at the same time. Been in music for a minute and you finally took that step and decided to get into it in a major way. Being that you’re so young I wonder who influences you? Who do you like in the Hip Hop game?

Hitman:There are a lot of great ones out there. I’m influenced by Kanye, The Runners, Cool n Dre, Juss Blaze, Swizzy, Timbo, Justice League and Drummer boy!
TN: Everyone says that Vegas doesn’t have a particular style. Since you’re one of the hottest producers in Vegas, describe your style?
Hitman: I don’t really have a style. Most people say I’m a southern beat maker, but I do everything. I’m always switching up, so people can’t really categorize me.
TN: Is that why everyone seems to come to you for production?

Hitman: Yeah, I can do any style and make it hot! That’s why every rapper in Vegas comes to me for a hit!
TN:I already know. Everyone I talk to says they’re working with you. That’s why I had to get you for this mixtape. What projects do you have coming up?
Hitman:I got some new stuff coming out wit the Landlord, Sedrew Price, 2 Realist, Lil Will’s new album and Voyce. Also, my group Triple E just released a mixtape and I did production on that. Me and DJ Nunu are supposed to host Young Tays mixtape also.
TN: That’s what’s up! I see you got a lot coming up real soon. I can tell that you’re on your grind! (laughs) So where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years? I think I know this answer. (laughs)
Hitman:Yeah. (laughs) In 5 to 10 years I see me putting Vegas on the map along with Sedrew Price and Tha Landlord. Also, I’m going to have a big studio in Vegas and I will own my own label and we will win awards. I know I’m going to win a Grammy one day.
